The Mighty Colby!
The Mighty Colby!
The fella next to me is the mighty Colby - the newest member of the Mule Team. And his mom, who valiantly drove him across the country to Michigan. He has been enlisted from the hallowed halls of the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery.
One of the unseen elements of being a guitar maker is this step-of-giants: The Move. When you get out of guitar school you have a foundation laid but you can only get better with repetition. With there being so relatively few guitar makers needing employees inevitably the day comes for The Move. So you must go. You pack up your stuff and you make a place you’ve never been your home. To do a job you haven’t done. Going is the easy part. It’s the leaving that’s hard
All the guys here at Mule have been in that spot. Mine was when I was 19 headed to the Shenandoah Valley to work at Huss and Dalton. The giant step into the unknown. It takes courage and curiosity. It takes guts. And more than that it takes an unlearnable ambition to build tools for making music. Colby took that step to build tools… for you.
All hail, the mighty Colby!
